CFISD names new principal for Yeager ES

Feb. 18, 2015Laura Barrett, the principal at Owens Elementary School, has been named the new principal for Yeager Elementary School. Barrett replaces Susan Brenz, who was named principal at Woodard Elementary School in January. 

Barrett has 24 years of educational experience, 22 of which have been in CFISD. She began her career as a sixth-grade teacher in Palestine ISD for two years before coming to CFISD, where she taught three years at Sheridan Elementary School. She was promoted to assistant principal at Owens, serving four years prior to accepting her current position as principal in 2000.

Barrett earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Stephen F. Austin State University and her Master of Education from Stephen F. Austin. She is currently participating in the Lamar University Principals Leadership Academy XVIII in the 2014-2015 school year.

She holds certifications in Mid-Management Administration, Elementary Self-Contained 1-8 Teaching and Elementary English 1-8 Teaching.

“I am honored and excited to have the opportunity to serve as the principal of Yeager Elementary School,” Barrett said. “Yeager has a long history of excellence, and I look forward to working with the students, staff and parents to build on their successes.”
